Optional Costs & Fees
All vehicles are covered by an extensive policy unless the hirer uses their own insurance. The insurance excess is £500 for cars and £1000 for vans. This excess can be reduced by 50% for a small fee of £20 for cars and £30 for vans.
You can add an extra driver for just £25 for the entire rental period.
We apply mileage charges only to our short-term rentals. For distances exceeding 250 miles, the rate is 10p per mile (plus VAT).
If a hired vehicle is returned with excessive dirt or mud on the exterior, dirty or stained interior seats, carpets, or surfaces, spilled food or drinks, or strong odors (including signs of smoking or vaping), the renter will be required to pay for valeting. The charge is a minimum of £50, depending on the cost to restore the vehicle to its original condition.
If any fines or penalties are incurred during the rental period, Bristol Car & Van Hire will pay these on behalf of the renter. The renter agrees to reimburse the company the full amount of the fine plus a handling fee of 25%. This handling fee covers the administrative costs and the VAT that the company must pay on these fines.

Things to do in Bristol
Bristol is a wonderful city with so many things to see and do! Take in the view of the city and its famous suspension bridge from the observatory in Clifton, or wander around the harbourside, taking in the SAS Great Britain and the multiple museums on offer.
Bristol is famous for its street art, so take a walk down North Street and take in the huge murals along the way – pop into the independent coffee shops for a hot drink or stop off at some of the restaurants to make the most of Bristol’s buzzing food scene.
If you want a day out of the city without going too far, hire a car and head to Leigh Woods and Ashton Court, or venture a little further afield to explore the stunning Cheddar Gorge.

Driving in Bristol
Bristol is a beautiful city, but the roads can get busy! Avoid driving in the city centre during rush hour (07:30 to 9:00 and 16:30 to 18:30), and make sure to keep an eye out for cyclists, as cycling is very popular in the city.
Small residential roads can get narrow, so be aware if you are looking for van hire, and always tuck in your wing mirrors if parking on a small street.
Bristol is also a hilly city and some roads can get steep! Feel free to ask for an automatic car if you aren’t used to driving on hills in urban areas.
